The Friends of the Bluffton Nature Preserve will remove invasive plants at 8 AM on the second and fourth Fridays.
The Friends group is beginning its first ongoing service project: biweekly events to remove invasive plants in the Nature Preserve. People who want to participate can come at 8:00 AM to remove invasive shrubs such as bush honeysuckle, privet, autumn olive, and multiflora rose. At appropriate times of the year, we may also remove herbaceous plants such as garlic mustard, teasel, and dame’s rocket.
Tools for removing shrubs will be available and no experience is necessary. Experienced participants can help newcomers recognize the target plants and demonstrate how to use appropriate tools to remove plants of various sizes.
It is also possible for individuals who want to work on the project to work independently. If you are interested in working on your own, please contact contact Dr. Jacob Buchanan for information about work locations and how to access the tools.
Meet at the Moyer Nature Center in the Preserve.
Second and fourth Fridays at 8:00 AM starting June 12 and continuing throughout the summer months and perhaps into the fall.
For more information, contact Dr. Jacob Buchanan, Bluffton University.
